Uninstall Problems with Microsoft Office

I am having problems with a complete uninstallation of Microsoft Office 2000 on Windows 7 (yes, this older version of MS Office actually works on Windows 7).

After uninstalling the program from Add/Remove Programs, I continue with a re-installation of the program. However, when I reinstall MS Office 2000, I find that my customized configurations from the earlier installation remain instact, and I am trying to erase these customized settings.

Perhaps there is a MS Office 2000 file in the Registry Editor that contains the customized settings and restores them even after a complete uninstall - reinstall process.

Thanks for any tips on finding any wayward MS Office 2000 file/s on Windows 7 after an uninstallation of the program.

I have also tried a System Restore before the initial installation of MS Office 2000, but Windows 7 has only offered error messages during several attempts of the System Restore option.

This brings me back to trying to find any wayward MS Office 2000 files on Windows 7 after uninstalling the program.

Yes you will need to delete all the Registry Keys for Office 2000. MS errors on the side that you want your settings if you should re-install; by default MS does not remove them when you uninstall the software.

After searching for and deleting two files within the Registry Editor, using the search phrase, "Microsoft Office 2000," a re-installation still produced a previous installation with its customized settings.

Perhaps the Office 2000 file within the Registry Editor that holds the previous installation data does not have the term, "Microsoft Office 2000," embedded within it.

In such a case, what is the best way to find this kind of previous installation file for a software program?

I Don't have Office 2000 installed anywhere so I can't say where the keys would be; however if MS stays in true form you could delete whole OFFCIE key at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office that should remove all Office Settings. Or it could be something like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office9 or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office10 ?? Guessing here.

There is a program called RegScanner that may help, you can search for something like “Office” and see what it finds. You will need to be careful not to delete something you need.
