Hi, If I need to format windows 7 and install new version how do I do it? What are the steps? Becuase when I purchased the laptop, they never gave me a Windows 7 disk. Do I need to call the store for a disk?

Thank you

Since it is a new laptop from the store that contains applications and other things that comes with the laptop... do you recommend to re-install windows, have a fresh copy?

Also I cant make a new partition from existing harddrive right? I would need to reinstall and at the installation create it like in WindowsXP?

Thank you

Do a clean copy of Windows 7, you should have a license key on the bottom of the laptop some ware, whatever version it is eg ultimate pro or whatever you need to get a copy of windows 7 and install the correct version with the license key. As for the applications go to the manufactures website and downland the drivers and applications that you will need from there.

When you load windows from boot you can delete and create partitions and format the drive there.

You can try uninstalling the bloatware which comes with the computer, cleaning it up afterward with CCleaner cleaner and registry tab, Auslogics free defraggers, etc. Turn off all startup programs in msconfig besides your AV and gadgets. This should speed it up a bit.

If it is less than instantaneous, you might want to do a clean install. But manufacturers no longer provide a clean copy DVD of Win7 since they make their profit margin off the sponsored bloatware. You'll need to borrow or download a Win7 installer. You can unlock all versions by deleting the ei.cfg file in Sources folder, then recompiling the ISO to burn to DVD using these steps: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/32055-bootable-iso-create-installation-files.html

Make your recovery disks in case you ever want to recover to factory condition, or save a Win7 backup image so you can start over. Then Boot the installer, select your licensed version and follow these steps to clean install: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

Afterward, insert the key from the license sticker on your computer at Computer>Properties activation link. It may require a robocall to MS to sort out the key from the batch key which is on the computer, however as long as you installed the version you own then it will activate.

First thing first.

Go to your manufacturers Recovery program & make your recovery DVD’s.

Bingo! :p

Most companies now include software to make recovery discs if they are not included with your laptop. If you want the real physical discs, you can call your laptop manufacturer and have them shipped to you. It will probably cost around $15-$20.
