Hi,Just found this forum so this is my first post. I'm having a problem with uninstalling programs. This is what happens. I press start, contol panel, programs and features then select the program to uninstall, then press the uninstall/change bar. As soon as I do this, a message box comes up for a split second reading "Setup is preparing the installshield wizard.....". and then disappears. I have tried it many times. Any help will be appreciated.

Install Revo Uninstaller, click on program, after it runs Windows Uninstaller do not restart when prompted, click Next to delete hidden Registry Keys and Files shown in bold.

Run System File Checker by typing sfc /scannow in elevated CMD box. SFC -SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Forums.URL

Check the Event Viewer>Admin View to google repeat errors to find how others have resolved them.

Did you in-place upgrade Vista to Win7?

Thanks, No Windows 7 installed from new 3 months ago.

Hi! toriu, welcome to W7F :)

Hi gr, I had a couple of questions for toriu:

  • Do you have admin rights on your machine?
  • Have you tried to install any programs. If so, how did it go?
  • Is this the first time you have tried to un-install any programs?

The reason I ask is if you continue to have problems uninstalling programs, you may have a problem with the MSI installer program.

The failure to uninstall could be related to the SQM Client, which is part of the CEIP (Customer Experience Improvement Program).

Have you had any problems with Windows Update or Windows Explorer?

Can you go to Event Viewer to see if you have an event listed at approximately the same time you tried to uninstall this program?

Look for something similar to :

  • Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7000.0, time stamp: 0x49431f06 or Windows Installer installation (MSI)
  • Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7000.0, time stamp: 0x49433e67
  • Exception code: 0xc0000005 or 0xc015000f
  • Fault offset: 0x0007f6d6
  • Faulting process
  • Copy/paste any result here in this thread.
  • Easiest way to Event Viewer is to type or copy/paste it into Start button >Search >Click on Event Viewer.

Hi Anak, The event viewer reports 12 critical errors and 6,674 events. As well as the un-install problem, my computer will not save restore points. I guess the two problems are related?

Hi toriu,

In a way they are. The event you posted 0x8000000000000002 should also be causing you BSOD's .

I have limited knowledge, and resources to help you here.
Go to: Crashes and Debugging - Windows 7 Forums , and explain that your uninstaller isn't working. You can't create restore points, and a possible 0x124 machine check exception has occurred.

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html

You can post what you have in your post #7, but you will also need other reports, and you will find how to create an post them in the sticky at the top of the C an D forum.

If you like you can reference back to this thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/showthread.php?t=111536

Good Luck, and I'll be watching how your doing.
