Hi
am new to this so pls bear with any mistakes in posting.
So i have windows 7 64 bit installed on my laptop..nd well the authentication required started and am missing a few drivers(my wi-fi device/driver seems to have vanished, including from the device manager and HP wireless assistant) so i have a windows 7 32 bit DVD which i would lik to install on it.But when i run the disc..it doesnt let me install saying that u cannot install a 32 bit OS on a system which is already running on 64 bit :-o..
Please help..life without wi-fi..its really really bad
P.s. i tried reinstalling the drivers from the HP site also..its a HP dv5 laptop.

Did you just reinstall Win7, or how else did you lose the wireless manager and driver?

If you clean reinstalled 64 bit, I would not replace the HP Wireless Manager which is crapware not needed in Win7. Just find the 64 bit driver for your wireless adapter on the HP SUpport Downloads webpage for your model and install it.

If for some reason there is no driver to install, find out the exact make/model of your wireless adapter and google it for Win7 drivers. If no name is listed, determine the make/model this way: Hardware Identification

You of course can work on the laptop for now using a wired connection to the router or modem, and you may then find that optional Windows Updates will deliver the missing drivers. Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

@gregrocker:yup i re installed windows 7 and thats causing the problems i guess..i checked the model no. and reinstalled the drivers from the HP website for the model no. Hp DV6 1006ax(dats the laptop model) but still no effect i cant even locate the device in device manager..
@deog:and the clean install indicated is for changing from other version to windows 7 rite?i want to change from windows 7 64 bit to 32 bit..can i do that also?

Assuming that what you have is really a dv5-1006ax, did you install this driver?

Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 HP Pavilion dv5-1006ax Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)=

(Broadcom wireless controller.)

Do you have any mystery devices in Device Manager? As your laptop seems to have WIndow 7 X64 drivers available, I suggest working on that for a bit longer before trying anything as drastic as blowing away the OS.

What is the exact listing under Network Adapters in Device Manager?

Does it show in error? What happens if you uninstall it on Driver tab and restart?

Is the driver bobkn linked above installed?

Rightclick on the network icon in System Tray to Troubleshoot Problems.
