Updated Skype to ver. 8 and contacts now has Unknown Bot listed. What is it and should I get rid of it?

This isn't of any help, but I think your question was answered. I just wanted to say that you should know Skype isn't per to per anymore since M$ took over. So gone is your privacy. And I need to let you know that there exists on the Internet so-called "Skype resolvers." What they try to do is resolve your home IP address with your Skype name. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it's a concern none the less and I think people should know about it. Granted, what ever you do on the Internet, even connecting to this forum your IP address is known. But it's who has your IP that is of consequence. And depending on your current router configuration, it's firmware and security settings, it may be possible for a would-be hacker to turn your router into a zombie where they can launch attacks and do others things form as a stepping stone. I can't tell you how many infected routers I've seen try and connect to my site and do nefarious activities. And I bet these people wonder why they don't have good bandwidth or Internet speed. It's even worse with the sheer lack of security for IoT devices where manufactures would rather make a quick buck then secure their product. In fact, I believe the world's largest DDoS was launched thanks in part to infected IoT devices. So that fancy remote controlled thermostat or light switch is used as an attack vector. Pretty shameful.

Anyway... I use a Team Speak server install on my netbook in the kitchen that's on 24/7. It works nice and flawless and I can talk to my friend from here in Colorado 10,000 miles away to Perth, Australia using encryption with no middle man like we were on a POTs (Plain Old Telephone) line. So depending on your usage and your application, a Team Speak server may be what you can use. And it's really not hard at all to install and use a Team Speak server. Their website will have instructions and there's instructions and YouTube videos all over the Internet. And the cool part there is a Team Speak App for your phone or tablet. I use my phone with my Bluetooth ear piece. It's more handy then being tied to the computer. If you need video and what not, then I guess Skype is the way to go. But I think Whatsapp and some other Apps might be more suitable.

Anyway.... Just had to throw that bit of Info. out there for your and others consideration.

Unknown bot

Thanks for replies but they don't seem to really answer the question. I got the update by clicking on the attached. It appeared in the Skype window. Maybe it was not directly from Microsoft and that why I got the Unknown bot (also got Skype Translator - icons were square not hexagonal). Perhaps uninstalling and downloading from the MS site would work. Trying to get the live pics of me and other person was far from intuitive and not like the older version - now has split screen with me on left side and the other person in 1/3 of the right side. I might just give up and try some other video chat.
