Unknown cause of BSOD for Acer Aspire 5730Z

Hello all,

This are this PC's specs:

Windows 7 Professional 32-bit OEM
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00 GHz 2.00GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB

Ever since two weeks ago, this PC is crashing ever so often. I can't seem to see a connection with anything; hence this thread.

I think it could be underpowered for certain software, for which a RAM upgrade would be a solution. A total of 4 GB DDR2 RAM is possible on this machine, though.

McAfee Security Scan is not realtime protection and should be removed to prevent conflicts with avast!. Most standalone scanners like McAfee Security Scan, such as Malwarebytes, are fine to run with a realtime scanner, but McAfee is known to cause performance and stability issues on some systems.


The crashes blame your Atheros wireless. Yours is outdated. Click on the Click for Download link on Drivers for Atheros AR5B91 and Windows 7, wait 20-30 seconds, and then you will have to install it manually using similar steps to OPTION 2 of http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/98073-drivers-install-vista-drivers-windows-7-a.html. Let us know if you have any trouble installing the latest driver. Often, wireless drivers are difficult to install and Windows incorrectly gives the message that the driver is already up to date.
