Solved Unknown computer showing up on network, YOUR-4DACD0EA75. What is it?

Have you checked the computer name on the XP machine?

IIRC on XP, Open My Computer icon, System properties, click on computer name & see whats there in the box for full computer name.

Well, would you look at that. After checking the actual name of the computer, it turns out it is indeed my dad's xp machine. Good call PowerLee. Thank you very much for the direction. So, out of curiosity, is that the generic name for pc's with the xp os?

BTW Thanks to everyone else for their input on what turned out to not be an issue at all. I certainly apologize for the unintentional implication that this was a serious issue, but not knowing/understanding something can sometimes make things worse, hence my queries.

No worries, as for the XP generic name, no idea if there all the same but most of the XP system's i've used over the years seem to have YOUR in the full computer name.

+1 for PowerLee. Glad it was resolved. I was about to report back that there's nothing too odd in your startups. There was one item that relates to Remote Displays that shows the program was not found or missing. Other than that, all looks clean. This could have been set if you allowed a remote service or troublshooter to check your system.

rdpclip.exe is the executable for File Copy. It is provides function for Terminal Services server that allows you to copy and paste between server and client. If your machine acts as a Terminal Server, i.e. someone else connects to your machine using Remote Desktop, then rdpclip.exe will be loaded on your machine as part of the Terminal Server functionality.

One reason for the XP system suddenly appearing on the win7 system could be updating the XP system. The networking stack was changed for Vista and win7 and the functionality for broadcasting the correct format was added to XP with SP2/3.

It was a regular issue at the release of win7 that XP systems did not appear correctly which was corrected by the issue of an update that was incorporated into the Service Packs

Just for info :)

I did read something in that regards while trying to figure the "issue" out at the beginning. Which I think just added to my confusion, as I was probably reading older posts. Thanks for the heads up!
