Unknown Virus?

My Win7 64 Pro suddenly got slower. With my system I never wait for anything, now I am typing at 2-3 CPS. I asked around online and they suggested I look at the Resource Monitor. I am getting 75 Memory Hard Faults per second. Memory Hard Hard Faults is somewhat of a misnomer. They are Windows Page faults. Booting a CD to bypass the OS and running Memtest then Prime95 8 hours each shows the hardware is rock solid.
One site suggested I have a virus and it is true I am also getting network activity I cannot account for. Win7 tools are cryptic and limited so I am not all that sure it is a virus. Running the Major Geeks Virus removal instructions changed nothing.

Any Ideas?

Hi, remove AVG and scan your system with avira or avast and hitman pro.

Dinesh is 100% correct about Avira or Avast. Not sure about Hitman Pro though as I think you may have to pay for it.

Please don't use AVG, it has poor detection and removal, even the new version 9.

Avira just released their new version 10 on 23rd March. Also Avast released their new version 5 recently. Both these pieces of software have excellent reviews.

+1 regarding AVG, it is useless. I get the best scanning results with Superantispyware. And get rid of AVG and install Avast, Avira or MSE.

I usually have process explorer to view what is running
Process Explorer


autoruns to see what is ran at startup

And TCPView to see what processes are connecting to the net

logging to implement your ideas and one other - my PSU is only 510, my bad thinking this was the 1KW box so I will upgrade that as well as the anti-virus.

All done with hardware.
AVG has homesteaded, uninstall fails even in safemode. I used TaskManager to stop all the related services and still no uninstall.

OK, my mistake.
After taking all your good advice I still had problems. You guys know what you are talking about and the software side showed no leads. If it isn't software, has to be hardware?
On a lark I hooked up my trusty Fluke meter to the 12V buss and then the 5V. Both pulled low on heavy disk access. I had finally overloaded my 510W PC Power and Cooling. I installed a 1KW Corsair and all is well.

I am guessing the RAM volts got too low for my overclock and my slow system was due to faults there. Interesting that Win 7 did not just die and put up a BSOD.
When I ran Prime95 and Memtest from a CD there was much less stress on the system and all tested well. Win7 disk thrashing and graphic desktop takes a lot more power so problems showed up there.
