unknown window in taskbar

this window is unknown and even after restarting my system, i have this window without any name.
it wont even show in task manager.
any ideas?

It looks like the windows explorer is missing its default icon, did you upgrade your windows 7 build or do a clean install?

The default icon for explorer looks like a folder, if you right click it does it show you the explorer jump list?

If it is pinned to the taskbar you can right click it and unpin, have you determined if it is explorer? do you have an explorer on your taskbar?. Perhaps you could post a screen shot of the entire taskbar with out safari running.

Yes that helps. Explorer is right next to that window on the left. It may be a user pined item, try looking in %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar for a shortcut that has a missing icon and remove it.

Hmmmm looking at the photo again it appears that is not a pinned item but a running application, you say that it is there everytime you start your computer?

i just disabled this in msconfig and now it wont appear any more.

hi limneos, sorry for the delayed response, was out of station for some days. well there was just a blank entry in msconfig and i unchecked it to fix this problem.

Uh oh.Might be time to scan for viruses? Been downloading anything that requires patches or cracks?

it could be an error message. Sometimes they go ping but dont show anything. Did you hear a ping? Another way to determine what it is, is to check task manager.

Hi Swarfega, taskmgr didnt have anything suspicious in it. Another way to fix this problem is:
Open regedit, go to hklm>software>microsoft>windows>current version>run
Delete the run and runonce key
