Unstable Network Connection

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum since I've just recently installed windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit to my PC
however I've already encountered some problem with it, everything works perfectly but the connection between my PC to my router is unstable, I can access the internet finely but sometimes (which happens at least once a day) the connection was cut off
and I am unable to connect back as it says "Unidentified Network" when this happens i was still able to access websites from my laptop which connected trough wireless
than to fix it I have to reset back my router and do the settings all over again
I've tried many solutions like turn off the firewalls for the connections, disabled bonjour, etc

can anyone help?
Thanks in advance :D

I've checked my router and unable to find the mac clone option in it (I am using Netgear router) and FYI I'm also using a mac laptop if this will add to my problem

I followed the link that chev65 gave, and read the instructions in it; i believe the solution from the link suggest to input the addresses manually, i'll try it when I've got the problem back

Some user replied to that tut, advising it didn't work. You can only try i supposed. I know i have (matter of fact you always need to put in the default gateway when using static IP) and also came up short of getting it to work. The problem with the 'unidentified network' or 'limited connection' is due to isolation between DHCP and the machine (if using auto detect settings), or wrong/insufficient IP, Gateway, DNS setup (if using static IP). You may solve 'unidentified network' but then the connection could become a 'limited connection'. Something to be looked at from the router's end if that's the case.

That tutorial I posted is worth a try. The one I posted had to do with dual default gateway assignments which has been occuring with certain routers. It isn't the same problem as Aem has with her obsolete router and secondary mac address clone problems.

The problem (I discovered after half an hour of Google-aided research) seems to be a secondary Default Gateway value of 0.0.0.0, which was showing up in the IPCONFIG readout before each re-enabling of the LAN card. I do not know the cause of this error, but it appears many users are reporting experiencing this problem in Windows 7 with several types of LAN cards and routers.

As you can see not all these DNS problems are the same. Many people have used that tut in the past with great success. ;)

Will it be possible that windows update have an effect on my networking problem?
I've realised that everytime my windows updated and needed a reboot to install it, my network problem re-appear and it is happening now
yet, i'm still able to access the internet via wireless while any device that connected to the router via cable unable to access the network including ps3

after I followed the link and input my default gateway manually plus reboot my desktop, I am unable to find the default gateway code in the IPCONFIG(CMD) as it disappear (blank) and Im still unable to connect to the internet; I even unable to access my router from the router login
any advice?im completely lost at this stage

I've tried to input all the IP addresses including gateway, DNS address all manually. ill see how it goes tonight

OH yes quite possible, how ever, because I can't see or test your system hardware from here I have no way of knowing anything for certain. I don't even know what model of Netgear router you are using, I can check for Windows 7 compatblity if I knew that. You also havn't filled out your system specs so I have no way of knowing anything about your system.

You only need to try another Windows 7 compatible router to know for sure. If your router isn't plug and play after the simple set up procedure and you are certain that your eithernet drivers are up to date and that the rest of your system can run Windows 7 then you have a problem with the router plain and simple. I have no way of knowing any of this for certain so I can only guess at the problem from here. ;)

Thx for the help btw :D
Ive came across a lot of solutions this morning, what I've done for now is I disabled automatic updates, update my Ethernet card driver and disabled the auto-sleep function as I've also realized that everytime the computer get into sleep it messes up the connection, and so far so good
Ill try to fill my system spec info later

Yes those Power Options come in handy for turning off those power saving features. They do tend to cause many problems. Updating eithernet drivers usually saves the day in most cases. Give it some time to make sure it's working correctly and report back in if you can.

I think the problem is getting better although it still re-appear,
but the good thing is I don't have to restart my router anymore... when the network is unidentified, i enabled my wireless, connect my desktop to the router trough wireless and the unidentified network from Ethernet (cable) connection fix itself than I disabled my wireless again (since i prefer connection with cable)
will it be my Ethernet card? but I'm pretty sure it worked properly a week ago when i was still using XP

How about writing a script to automate that process for you...lol j/k.

It does look like you have an issue with the ethernet card, as i assume you have used the correct cable type. You mentioned it's a MAC laptop. It could be that the router isn't compatible with MAC type adapters. Your wireless adapter has to be compatible cos it's working lol....
