I bought a new laptop, Toshiba Satellite C55-B with Windows 7 Professional 64Bit installed.
After installing Office 2010 Home and Student edition I find that with Windows update I can not get Windows update to set Office for the update program. Every thing I have been able to determine is that I need to start Windows Update and then click on "Find out more" after the "Get updates for other Microsoft products". When I do this I am directed to a web page, Microsoft Windows Update

One suggestion was to uninstall and reinstall Office which I did and of course I got the same results.
How can I get the the updates for Office. I don't have this problem with the desktop running Windows 7.

And this is what I get, no way to select anything See the screen shot.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Keith

Your Office Updates should come in due time if you've selected MS Updates checkbox as you said.

Sometimes they may be bottled up. Always check the Shutdown button in Start Menu for a ! indicating Updates need clearing by a Shutdown.

Does the PC still have the factory install? If so that is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall Windows 7

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint.

Until then you can Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

gregrocker,

Today on my desktop I received 13 updates for Office 2010. On my new laptop I received none. I did receive some updates for Windows 7, Security updates for Windows 7, but non for Office 2010. Is this normal? When I installed Office 2010 I applied all the service packs for it, there were two.

The laptop had the factory install and I have cleaned it up. It had an very insidious program called PlumoWeb that kept coming back. It attached it's self to the web browsers and deleting them and installing the web browsers, and deleting every reference to the program in the register things were clean. The laptop is now clean and runs fine. It was a cheap replacement for an old HP running XP.

gregrocker,

Thanks for the information. I solved the problem. I must be getting old. I checked to see if I checked the box for all MS updates and it was not visible, that is it was not there and the software notifications was also missing. I researched this problem and found that it was a simple change to the registry. After I checked for new update I received 41 for office,1 for internet explorer, and 1 silverlight. All I had set was to be notified when new updates were available and I would install them.

There were a few questions about a clean install that I did not have the information on.
1. Does it void the warranty?

2. Would the 64bit OEM copy I have for the desktop been usable to install with the key from the laptop? There were no disks supplied with the unit. I did not want to buy a new copy of the operating system when I already had paid for one with the laptop.

3. Would there have been a problem with device drivers unique to the laptop as Toshiba had special software for the keyboard, display, and the camera?

Again thanks for jogging my mind to see what I had checked. My fault.

Keith
