Update athrx.sys driver

Hi there,
I think that I need to update this driver because it has caused a BSOD, but I have no idea what one to choose. Should I download it from this website?: https://www.atheros.cz/ and what one do I choose? I'm also a bit confused because I have a TP-LINK TL-WN881ND wireless adapater which isn't atheros so should I even have athrx.sys on my system? Thanks for help

If I go here TL-WN881ND - Welcome to TP-LINK and download the TL-WN881ND_V1_130521 it downloads athrx.sys, which is the driver I want to update, but when I try to manually update the driver using Device Manager it says it has installed successfully, however, the date on the driver remains 23/11/2010 when it should be 21/5/2013! So it obviously hasn't updated and when I use driver verifier my computer freezes (doesn't crash) after a boot, implying that there is an error with one of my drivers. I'm so confused.

Hi ... Try this way ...


Device Manager
Right-click on your device
Then click on Update Driver
Select on "seach driver on computer"
Then insert the path of your INF file
Click OK and Windows will install the driver for you.

I do this but it says "The best driver software for your device is already installed", but the date on my new driver is 2013 and the old one is 2010... So I don't know why it isn't installing. Thanks though

In regards to your first post question,

A lot of devices have the Atheros chip in them, that's why you need that driver.

Your BSOD thread is pointing to hardware, not a driver, how did you come to the conclusion this driver was causing your BSOD?

I ran all the hardware tests and got no errors, but when I run driver verifier my PC freezes, so I guess it's a driver iussue. 2 of the BSODs have been due to nwifi.sys and athrx.sys, and since nwifi.sys is a Microsoft driver (I think) I'm assuming it must be athrx.sys. For some reason I don't seem to be able to update this driver though... Thanks for help
