hi,
i've posted elsewhere about some issues, not sure if this is part and parcel of something, but when checking my event log i saw a half-dozen or so Updates have failed, w/ the above error. clciking on the "help" gives none. when i got them the other day i went through the install thing ("do not power off" etc) and the percentage completedf thing got to 100% each time, so i didn't think anything had gone wrong.
i've seen another thread here
http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/337480-update-error-code-80070308-a-2.html

and i've done the Command Prompt thing NoelDP said in Post #11 ~ i have virtually the same results as in Post #12 except mine doesn't say "PendingRequired REG_DWORD 0x1" so i wasn't sure if i should proceed.
i've just had a look at my Check For Updates and it's only listing one optional, doesn't seem to be looking to retry the failures?

can any one advise me where to go from here please?

TIA

Hi wolfie138 & welcome to sevenforums.

Sorry 'bout the delayed response, too few qualified helpers, to many needy forum members.

Please follow Windows Update Posting Instructions

Additionally please download SURT tool and post CheckSur.log located at: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

Don't post the entire CBS folder

We'll take a look and see what can be done.

Not familiar with error code, might need NoelDP to chime in on this one, he's the expert.

In training in another forum for windows update errors, and haven't dealt with that error code yet.

I'll do a little research on it & see what I come up with.

When running Windows Update you receive an error that says, “Code 80070308”

Rebooting does not resolve the issue. Stopping the Windows Update service & deleting everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution does not resolve the issue.

Solution
– Open Regedit & browse to HKLM\COMPONENTS. Delete the PendingRequired value name.

Click Yes when prompted then close Regedit.

Now run Windows Update again.

Hey wben,
as it turns out the above wasn't needed. i dunno what happened, but in regedit there was no "pending" stuff, and when i trawled through the Update history it had quietly updated successfully sometime; i honestly can't recall seeing any "don't power off or shut down" stuff, so i'm not sure how this happened! oh well, thanks for the help anyway :-)
