Update error 0x8024420C

Hi,

I'm trying to install SP1 on a 2nd machine (first machine worked without a problem) and I'm getting windows update error 0x8024420C.

Anyone else seen this? Know how to fix it?

I have googled your error message and no luck! If we were to keep it aside, the more likely problems according to MS articles are conflicts with anti-virus .You may simply turn off the A-V and try the install! You are lucky in a sense that you are getting the sp1 via win. update

If it does not work then another tack is to download this behemoth (300mb) Win.Update Readiness tool Download details: System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2011]

If that solves the issue,then fine! Otherwise,install any other updates that are coming along with sp1 first and then install the service pack!

Make sure you run your anti-malware and spyware tools to remove any "ware", because that can be a very common cause! This MS article , i've found very useful : Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center
