I have Win7 SP1 64 bit. Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 fails to install and now I can't get any Windows updates. I can install other updates if I download the standalone update files from Microsoft's website, just not the Update Agent.

When Windows Update tries to update to the WU Agent 7.6.7600.320 I get the 800F081F error.

I downloaded the standalone update file (from Update to Microsoft Update client) and tried to install it, and I got the 0x80070002 error.

I have used both admin account and my regular account while attempting the install.

What I have tried so far:

- sfc /scannow - found no errors
- installed Windows Update Readiness Tool (May 2014)
- Microsoft Fixit
- Windows Update Diagnostic
- checked my computer with 3 different virus/malware scanners (not at the same time, and only one of them
is for real time scanning, the two others are on an usb stick just for on demand scanning) and nothing was found
- even tried to change DNS on to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. and still no go
- renamed the "Software Distribution folder" so a new one was created
- tried the install with clean boot, but nothing
- instructions from Windows Update error 80070002 - Windows Help didn't help either

Any help with this would be much appreciated. View attachment 332188.

The CBS.log is stuffed with this error...
Code:

Why this isn't found by SFC I'm not sure - unless you're using a hack to have multiple languages installed in a Home Premium machine. Technically, that file shouldn't be there anyhow, so I don't understand why Windows is looking there in the first place.

Let's have a bit of a look at the system in a more general way...
Please follow the instructions here http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html - but just post the resulting file here in your reply.

I haven't, at least knowingly, installed multiple languages on my machine. Anyway, here are the results I got. Edited to add: Forgot that my keyboard is probably set to Finnish because I need the Nordic characters/letters, but my system language is set to English.

Hmmm - with luck this will free up the system...

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the flowing command.

Code:
DISM /online /remove-package /packagename:WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.6.7600.320

.
Once complete, reboot, then go to Windows Update and do a Check for Updates - this should force a reinstall of the WU update itself.

Did that, and while it took a bit longer this time, I still got the same error message:

Somehow, your system seems to be convinced that it's running Czech Windows !

Let's see if we can specifically get rid of this one...
Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the flowing command.

Code:
DISM /online /remove-package /packagename:WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-UIComp~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~cs-cz~7.6.7600.256

.
reboot, and see what happens.

Hmmm - it seems the registry thinks that the file should be present...
Let's see what we can find.

Open an elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

Code:
REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages" /F WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-UIComp
post the results.

Thanks for all your help. I think I may have to just install Win again from scratch though, since it didn't have the SP1 when I bought it from Sony and if I've read the forum correctly, my product key won't work if I use the iso/dvd/usb with SP1 as the tutorial says is the preferred method.

The SP1 is no barrier to a repair - you can download the ISO and create the disk to use for the repair (see the Tutorial I linked to)

...and your COA sticker Key will work with the retail disk.
