Solved Windows Update Language Packs are stalking my computer, I need help!

I have a Dell precision T1650 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I just built this last July/August, everything has been fine till the Language packs showed up and failed to install, I have Hispanic friends so downloaded the Spanish pack and hid the rest, I thought. Every 2 or two days they fail to install again, now they show up in my DISM logs and when I tried to do a restore, I found out that Restore see's them as a "critical update" and creates a restore point every time they fail to install. Now I tried to go to safe start and can not even go there. I have turned off Windows Update using Windows Update settings, that did not work, so tried from Services - Windows Update - Stop - manual startup. It attempted to install again, failed. So tried Services - Windows Update - Stop - Disabled. This is kicking my butt, Help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you so much for your reply, I understand that they are only optional. My computer has been trying to install them almost everyday. I followed the steps to hide them but that did not stop them from installing, as I said, I turned off windows updates - set to manual, and woke up next morning to find they had attempted to install again, and reinstalled as set-points in my restore logs registered as a critical update. see snippet. Today I had to use disk clean up because system properties/system protection would not delete them any more. below is the copied results of the MSGATD you sent me.

Good morning/day,
Today is the first morning since disabling WU that I do not have a bunch of failed update installs and 15 - 20 new Restore Points. But my computer still receives Updates from MS and would like to turn WU back to Auto, someday. I did try recently to go to Safe Mode W/cmd but computer locked up while loading drivers and would not proceed further, twice. I do not know if it related to the Update issue or not.

i asked you to run msdiag was to find out if your comp was linked to another server, non MS it, wasn't
any chance you can do the following
from an admin command prompt run the following
rsop.msc

post any output


Running in safe mode will only generally "crash" because of faulty 3rd party drivers
please run
msinfo32

(suspect its your Avira AV causing grief.... now owned by Avast... doooh

and post the results

dump Avira and use MSE

Fixed - maybe, so far so good!

Last night, after running the "Reset_Windows_Update_full.bat" that I found here, and turning on WU in Services. I ran update again and had 1 critical update and 33 optional updates. So I selected the critical update and it loaded fine and created only 1 restore point! No 33 failed updates! So far so good. I am relieved that I can turn on WU again. So thank you all for your time and patients for a Forum Newcomer, I wish I had found this place much earlier!

Hello, I woke up this morning and it happened again. 66 language packs failed to install 2 times each pack, and I now have 41 Restore Points from "Critical Updates" Could this be a registry issue? I do not have a clue where to start. Please Help...

I did what I had to do to stop the highjacking of my system restore.

After many many hours of researching and finding no help on this issue I decided to just install all of the Language Packs I started about 2 and a half weeks ago and after I started I received a flood of new windows updates, optional, recommended and important. I have installed all and now my System Restore Points are mine.
