I had an update fail. (see long pic included). I tried again and a second shot produced A success for the same update. Can I remove the first one, without any concern?

You can clear your update history if you'd like.

It won't remove installed updates, just history. You can still find installed updates in "Installed Updates"

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91738-windows-update-reset.html

So it won't affect anything regardless of whether I delete history, or the first item of the pair?

I'll pass on the upload. I think what I have written is understandable.

Correct, you can delete all of your history and your installed updates will remain unchanged. You can still find the history of installed updates in "Installed Updates"
