I have a Gateway computer, 64 bit, DX4822-01, with Intel pentium E5300 Dual Core, 2.6GHZ each, 6GB ram, and 1TB HDD, running Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 bit.

I just checked my record of updates and found the following has been installed several times:

Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)

Is this correct or is it repetitious. If it is repetitious, what is happening and what should I do?

Hello!

What you should do varies greatly depending on one thing. Can you please look back at your update history, and tell me if it is repeatedly failing, or repeatedly succeeding? Double click on one as an example, and see if you can get an error code out of it.

Then please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, copy the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log into that new folder on your Desktop as well, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

Thanks!

Richard
