Been using Google and such for a couple months messing with it but cant get update to work. My girlfriend updated from Vista a while ago and I cant crack this! I have done all the differect things I could find from Microsoft to no avail. The fixit program finds something and says its fixed but still doesnt work.

Any ideas you all could give would be great! Thanks.

Thanks for reply. Yes, did most of that.

This step was new
"Have you tried the following:
stop the WindowsUpdate service
rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old
restart the WindowsUpdate service
try to reinstall the patch...

Open an elevated cmd prompt
type in net stop wuauserv /y
hit Enter
rename the folder above
type in net start wuauserv
Hit Enter
retry the patch."

After doing this i get error 80004005

Hum I have no experience with upgrades bobo and from what I see they tend too be hit and miss affairs. However I Googled the last error and came up with this http://blogs.msdn.com/b/richin/archive/2012/07/04/windows-update-kb2667402-error-80004005.aspx

So it might be worth running a scannow http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
An option - only -
Personally I would be very inclined to get a new drive and some more RAM if you have not got the max and install an OEM and just transfer the data that you need onto it but thats just me as I see you have a Toshiba and having had them myself I know how much crap they put on them and this would be crap free as mine are now - I used SSD's for speed but if you are going to use a lot of space then a spinner is ok but get a 7200 rpm model rather than the standard 5400 rpm they usually palm you off with .

Just as matter of curiosity what model Toshiba have you got?

Fixed it! Found the answer on another site. It is an unofficial installation for the news Windows Update Agent. Downloaded, installed, and not installing 131 updates!

1. I have return to Internet and found that you are not alone with problem with this update.
2. Unfortunately this update is not reacheable with manual download and install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104/en-us
3. Are there any traces in WindowsUpdate.log ?
Regards
Milos
since there are no official standalone Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256 installers available from Microsoft, you could try one of the following unofficial WUA v7.6.7600.256 setup packages from Wincert.net.
just run it with the /q and /wuforce switches and reboot & see what happens.

Sorry should have got the logs again before I fixed this, but I got it!! Did more and more reading on the error and found a sight that suggested Kaspersky TSSKiller (dl from cnet)

If found one problem, didn't write it down because I assumed the program would keep a log, but it does not. It removed a malware attached to a system file, asked for reboot. Ran the Windows Update FixIt (for the 30th time) then proceeded to download and update 54 updates.

I suggest the mods checking it out and maybe recommending it for all for all Windows Update problems...after all the basic stuff.

Again, before this, I did..
Fix It
Clean Boot
Restart Update Service
scv Scan
Modified Registry File
Much more too, just about all of them.

Thanks for the help and the nice forum guys! Ill be sure to come back if there are future problems.

Might be worth keeping in mind too when you get a bunch of updates to do them in smaller lots.

But glad you have it fixed! oh and there will be other problems mate unless you are extremely lucky LOL!!
