update from 7000 to 7022 automatic?

Its always a big mystery when it comes to MS and the build releases. With the latest leaked build, would we be able to update to build 7022 from 7000 with microsoft update? or would it require a fresh install?

It won't be thru Windows Update. They'll probably give it to us like they did 7000.

As Airbot rightly said, any official sanctioned releases of Windows 7 will most likely be made available through the same channels as were used for the official Public Beta

when this becomes available it should be possible to either update an existing installation or to install fresh.

It may also be possible to do the same with the unofficial Torrent leaks

As far as I am aware the next official release will be the release candidate sometime in April

In so much words, yes. And it most likely won't be 7022 that M$ will release. Probably a later build.

I would be surprised if the RC official build did not include an upgrade option as this would by definition be as close to the release build as possible and the upgrade would be normal for retail builds.

As I understand it is possible to perform an upgrade with the 7022 torrent build but cannot confirm this as I have not downloaded it

If at all possible I would recommend that a fresh install is always performed rather than an upgrade as upgrades tend to be less stable, of course this is of less importance with a time limited Beta release, that a long term install, but should still be considered

Umm, no. Ever since Vista, Microsoft only allows upgrade installs if you run the CD from a supported OS. e.g. XP SP2 if you want to upgrade to Vista, or Vista SP1 if you want to upgrade to W7.

These are 'interim' builds, not released to public, not meant to be used by the public, and particularly, not suitable for 'general release'.

This board (and any other for that matter) could become very confused with people's issues regarding Windows 7 faults, if we were all using different builds, especially ones which have obviously been leaked.

We all need to be on the 'same' level here, if were to test and iron out Windows 7's faults/bugs before RC1, surely?

But surely you were all using the leaked builds before 7000? There is even tutorials here for 6801 activation etc etc...??

If you all want to be on the same level why not install 7022? Even if not a simple "Im using build ????" in topics would be ok?

I think the majority of members here are satisfied at the moment with the 7000 build. Being the official release from M$. And will wait until the RC comes out officially from M$. The subtle few differences in the 7022 build probably won't cause much confusion in solving problems, although it does cause confusion when members don't fill out their specs to say what build they have and/or even if they are running 7 at all and are just asking questions about it until it they buy it.

I agree but surely its general good practice to state build/version numbers when seeking support?

I personally wouldn't go back to 7000 now IMO.

My apologies but i was not aware that downloading leaked beta's was in anyway illegal/warez/pirate.. its not a retail product yet?

And if it is (please don't take this the wrong way) but this forum contradicts its self by providing tutorials and info on previous leaked builds.

I can confirm 7000 upgrades to 7022 just fine. I had a few problems to start with, I would keep getting to end of upgrade then it would fail and revert back to 7000.
It turned out the problem was with Norton not fully being removed from system before hand.
Just an extra note. The new Norton 360 Beta2 and now Beta 3 is not compatible with Windows 7 v7022. It is fine with 7000 though.
I have spent the last 6 hours coming to that conclusion along with a couple of tech guy's from Norton.
It just fails to accept a key or to activate. This is probably why the inmstall failed.

I do beleive there is also a problem when upgrading with the onboard HD audio device. I found more reliable if you uninstall drivers for this then re-add after install finishes.

Appart from the above the release is rock solid.
