I have Windows set to notify me of updates. But when I search for updates manually, I find new critical and important ones. Did I miss a setting? How do I get Windows to tell me there are updates for me? Thanks.

When your PC is set for automatic updates, the update client checks the Windows Update server for the availability of new updates at random intervals, this ensures the update server is not overloaded with requests. BTW, the client is very efficient at its job and searches only for incremental updates i.e. those that have been added since the last time updates were searched.

When you manually check, you are pinging the Update server directly so all applicable updates show up immediately.

OK. I think I get it--so I will eventually be notified when it's my turn to download the updates? Thanks, Bill2.
