Hello. I have a Dell optiplex GX260 Samll minitower. It has Pentium 4 2.0 GHZ processor and 512 MB memory. It has 20 GB of hard drive, combo dvd/cdrw and a 15" flat panel monitor and speakers. It runs a Windows XP Pro. OS. What do I have to change or update to update to Windows 7. I want to keep as much of my pc as possible. I have looked at the system requirements on the & home page, but am not sure of what I need. thank you.

Extremely Tough question, for me at least. I know Win 7 requirements are not as taxing as Vista but still, I feel you'll have vast problems with compatibility... I would keep using XP until you can get (or afford) a newer computer as upgrading will be a waste of time and money.

I'd say it's a simple question, to be honest, because only two things jump out at me, and both are very very simple to replace. I would get a larger hard drive, and bump the memory to 2 GB. My first step though, would be to visit Crucial.com and use their product advisor to see what the max supported memory is. If the max is only 1 GB, I'd save my money for a new computer.
