I have problem with the UAC in windows 7.
I was told here to buy an installation disc, but I have not done it yet.

Well, I was surfing Microsoft website and I learned that if you hold Shift while right clicking on an EXE file, you can see "Run as different user" option on the menu.

So I decided to try it... I tried both "Run as different user" "Run as Administrator" on a program. The admin option asked me to enter my admin's password, and so I did but it didn't work.
the "different user" option worked!:)

Help?
I want to fix "Run as Administrator".

At least now I can run programs as admin...

But it is not enough, because I still have problem with every action that require admin privileges.

You need to have the Admin password which is set up when you first install the OS or set up Win7 on a store bought computer. It's best to operate under this account then you will not be prompted for password, just Admin approval.

Look at Control Panel>User Accounts to see if you have an Administrator account. If not you'll have to temporarily enable hidden Adminstrator to create one: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/507-built-administrator-account-enable-disable.html

If you don't trust yourself to operate under an Admin account, then continue to use your Standard account and supply the Admin password when prompted.

Hello Senteaf,

No one mentioned for you to disable UAC. Did you read Greg's post above and try it?

You'll need the Administrator account password then for elevated permission to run something when you're operating from your Standard account.

Are you the Administrator on the computer? If so you can operate under that account without the need for the password.

Ah sorry I thought I saw something else
But it is not what I want...

I created a standard account because I wanted another "layer" of security.
Then, in case I need administrator privileges, I will use my admin account password.

But the problem is that it does not work. And I don't want to reinstall. Isn't there a fix for the associated files?

Try changing or removing the Admin account password in User Accounts, but you will still need to have the correct password.

I will try it...
Thanks

Are you running under your Admin account or Standard Account? Try the Admin account.

What folder are you trying to access? Is it hanging or giving an error message?

Try running SFC -SCANNOW Command.
If it will not run from Win7, you may need to run it from Advanced Boot Options as shown here: SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

You said you were advised here to find an installation DVD. This may be because you need to run a Repair Install or clean reinstall if this is a corrupted factory install with the preinstalled bloatware and useless factory utilties which can hamper Win7 performance: Reinstalling Windows 7

I am running under my standard user.
If I am under my admin, there is no problem, because he is admin!

The problem is that UAC does not work, which means I can't have Administrator privileges on any of my standard users.

What folder are you trying to access? Is it hanging or giving an error message?

I am trying to access a restricted folder with my admin password...
After I enter my admin's password in the UAC prompt window, the window will be hanging forever.
*The location bar is filling up with green.
And I see "consent.exe" process too, looks like there is a problem with that one.

Does it check for problems? because I ran it once and nothing was wrong.

But I don't have an installation disc.
I wanted to find another way to fix, because I don't want to delete all my files.
And it is expensive, isn't it?:(

Try creating a new Standard account to see if the problems happen.

If UAC isn't working then you need to repair or reinstall Win7. Run SFC again to see if it fixes problems which can save the trouble of finding an installation DVD to run a Repair Install or clean reinstall.

You do not have to buy a new copy of Win7 if it came with the computer - you own it for the life of the computer and can reinstall it as often as you want with the Product Key on COA sticker.

See if you can borrow a Win7 installation DVD from a friend - any retail installer for the same version will work. If it isn't the same version you can extract the ISO using ImgBurn to unlock all versions and burn an all-versions DVD to Repair Install. I would personally clean reinstall for best performance overall. It's a valuable learning experience which will help you understand WIn7 and your computer better.

If you must download ISO from the internet, find an official Win7 download like is hosted at My Digital Life so you don't have to worry about anything being added. Then burn to DVD to run the Repair Install, which may require you to uninstall SP1 if you don't have an installer with SP1: uninstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Even better is to back up your files and clean reinstall following these steps to get a perfect reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

Thanks, I will do that!
