Update Windows 7 "remotely"? (Possible wishfull thinking here)

Greetings!

I have an extremely annoying problem that I *hope* there's a fix for, however I'm not sure that there is.

Issue:

I am trying to updater Windows 7 on a computer that is totally lame using the WSUS Offline Updater tool. I am doing this because I can download and package all the updates on a much faster machine, then install on the slower one.

However, the problem is that this machine takes forever even using the Offline Updating tool. (I don't even want to think about trying to do it manually on that machine. . .)

What I hope to find:

Is there a way to take the hard drive out of that machine, connect it externally to one of my faster machines, and updated it?

Note that it is entirely likely that the architecture will be totally different - in this case I have a machine with an Athlon II "quad core" and 8 gigs of RAM - the faster machine has a smokin' hot i7, 16 gigs RAM, and a 2T SSD. Updates on it finish before I am done with dinner. The former machine has not even completed the update catalog step after almost 20 hours. . . .

Any ideas? Just tossing the machine and using it as a boat-anchor is not an option.

Thanks!

Jim (JR)

I actually have several machines that all frustrate me. That's why I'm here, not to try and impress people with sordid tales of outrageous hardware.
Try disabling windows update.
