Solved Updated bios on ASUS Rampage 111 gene,my added picture is pixlated...

I updated the bios from ASUS support. The BIOS update is fine, I was able to add a picture, the picture has too few pixels and on the full screen, at bootup, is badly pixelated. Can I delete the picture or replace it with a better one. It is only cosmetic, so if not, no worries

Are you talking about a bootup / BIOS image? These are nearly always low-resolution anyway and will therefore be pixelated and low quality.

To remove the image, you'll probably have to check the instructions for the BIOS version you installed; after all, BIOS has pretty much nothing to do with Windows 7

I've encountered that too. I believe the image is resized when its embedded in the BIOS file. The bit depth is probably changed too. You could try a different image and you might get lucky but you have to re-flash your motherboard with the modified file to change it. Flashing your BIOS is a lot less risker than it used to be but there still is a slim chance it could go wrong. How bad do you want that custom boot image?

Thanks for that. It was my fault, I selected a file from My Pictures and it was too big. So I chose the avatar I use of my Yellow Ford. That is too small (like red ridinghood and the 3 bears!!). Like you I feel that messing about unnecessarily with the BIOS is silly. The quick appearence of the pixilated picture foe a second or two at boot up,is the "least of my worries". By the way I visited St John NV in 1949 as a teenager! Gee, I getting on in years. All the best and thank you for you reply.

I had used a windows 7 wallpaper. It looked real good from a distance but not so good close up. I just went back to the stock picture on my last flash. A lot probably depends on how big your monitor is. As far as the boot logo goes, bigger probably isn't better.

How did you "go back to the stock picture on last flash"?? I have a LG W2486L (24").

Sounds fine if I can change my picture.

To go back to the stock image I just flashed with the original unmodified BIOS. While the custom logo sounds cool, and can look cool if you get lucky, its limited to a certain max number of colors and screen resolution. I think the ASUS one is MyLogo 2? For my board its something like 256 colors and 640 x 480 resolution. If you read up on that you should be able to see what your limits are for max no of colors and screen res. Then use something like irfanview to convert your image to that and have a look at it. When you have an image you think you like use that to mode the BIOS and then flash it. Keep in mind the BIOS screen is a pretty basic low res screen. Windows isn't loaded so no video drivers are loaded. My current monitor is only a normal aspect ratio 4:3 19 inch LCD. I think the bigger your monitor the, the worse your image is going to look. My guess is the original intent for this option was for a (very simple) company logo to be displayed.

Thanks for the nfo. As you say it is like booting in safe mode as far as the graphics etc. are concerned. I am now thinking I could do damage to the BIOS chip in trying to improve the picture that appears for a couple of seconds!

The wallpapers are fine and the bios is dated 09-20-2011. So in the words of the prophet, leave well alone!! I can wait till the time comes for anothe update.

Unless its a laptop with a battery, or a PC connected to an UPS, there is always that slim chance of a power failure during a BIOS flash that could brick your motherboard. If you have dual BIOS or boot block though odds are good you'd even survive that. Still I wouldn't flash my BIOS during a storm. I would imagine the bit depth and resolution restriction is also to keep the size of the image file down. BIOS files are pretty small and there isn't a lot of room on the chip that stores them. Maybe UEFI will let you embed a better image, it has GUI I believe.

Thanks again for your advice. I will leave it as it is, as I don't "watch" the bootup and the three or so bootups per day, I can blink at the picture and just wait for the pretty (lol) desktop. my laptop is fine, but I will heed your power failure warning. Thank goodness we are in a stable area and not in a 3rd world country. Our neighbor (from Vancouver) has some friends over from Canada, I think they will notice the warmer weather!

-1 c here this morning. This is the first "what I would call cold" day in a while. Its been in the teens most days. A bit wet and rainy but you get used to that, its par for the course around here this time of year. There will be some though that are probably complaining about the lack of snow and not being able to use there snowmobiles. I'll be happy not to see any snow until Christmas Eve.

26c or 78f here this morning Saturday. Will get to 29 or 30c. Little rain, in fact we have had the dryest Nov for years. I don'y know if our neibors visitors will drive here, but we are on the few countries that drive on the left. Well most oif the time some think they are inanother olace and drive on the right..We see that on TVB or in the papers!!

Do you have the lastest Mustang or Cadillac ? Me (us) the Ford Falcon XR6. The price of gas is dear here 140c per litre. Still we don't drive much. By the way I think I was in St John(s) New Brunswick. I remember Montreal, vaguely, the French being spoken it was difficult to understand people, but it was fine and &^%$#) cold!!!!!

2011 Ford Focus, just put the winter tires on. There is just a little bit of snow here and there this morning. It will likely melt once the Sun shines a bit more. -3 c right now.
My two main PCs both have ASUS motherboards, an M4N68T-M V2, and a M2N68-AM SE2. At some point I'd really like to get a SABERTOOTH 990FX, but it might be a while. lol I'm still buying parts for the other two. They both have the MyLogo option. I think the trick is to use a very basic plain image to start with. When the color depth (no of colors) gets reduced some colors will change color. If you use something with a lot of bright colors it will end up looking funny. Anyway its probably time to let this thread die so I'll say one more have a good day and let it go.
