BEWARE of new Samsung 850 PRO Firmware!

I just upgraded the firmware today(just released) on my Samsung 850 Pro SSD using samsung's Magician Software and everything went fine and the PC automatically shutdown. I waited a few seconds after the PC shut down and now I only get a black screen with a movable cursor. I'm currently using parted magic 2013 build to research how to fix this and I don't have another PC at the moment.

Things I've tried.
1. safe mode doesn't work
2. startup repair didn't fix anything.
3. Low res start up didn't fix the problem.
4. in parted magic it looks like all my files are still there.

I need this fixed fast as I don't have another PC and I would have to transfer my files to another drive and do a clean install on my samsung SSD.

EDIT
Do Not update any Samsung 850 Pro SSD's to the following firmware:
850 PRO EXM02B6Q

- Improved compatibility for SATA 3Gb/s based systems
- Enhanced user-performance for workstations

Me too...my three week old $700 SSD has been killed by Samsung's firmware update applied via Magician...I've contacted Samsung via email, FB, and Twitter...no reply, but firmware pulled from Samsung's support page

Looks like Samsung messed up and their RMA department will be working overtime.

I'm currently running WIN 7 on my 6 year old Corsair P256(samsung SSD:zip:) with all my old data intack. The Samsung 850 pro I have is still giving me problems with a secure errase and a clean OS install. I will post back if I can get this drive to work.

Note that Samsung has removed the 850 Pro firmware upgrade from their web site.

Won't be back available until it's verified to be usable, I would venture to guess, and until all of the RMA's for just-destroyed drives are processed and shipped.

Good thing I saw this (and similar related) thread, as I just received an 850 Pro due to be installed in a new Lenovo M930 this weekend. Don't know what firmware is in it, but if it had been 01 I certainly would have gone ahead with an update to 02 if it came from Samsung and Magician advised to install.

I believe Magician is now claiming "no update available", from what I've read.

I did a secure erase with partedmagic and a clean Win 7 install. Everything is working fine on the drive now and I just have to tweak and rebuild everything.

I looked on the SSD faqs website and might have found the cause of the problem I experience since I had Rapid mode enabled on the drive. From the manual: "RAPIDmode starts its operation 45 seconds after OS booting" I installed the firmware update right after a system restart, so maybe Magician didn't notice rapid was enabled in time? The Magician help manual says nothing about disabling rapid before a firmware update.

How do I update the Firmware Update?

Samsung occasionally provides new firmware in order to improve SSD performance, compatibility, and user experience. Firmware update is recommended whenever a new version is released.
SSD drive and Model number are shown.
If you encounter any problem with the Live firmware Update feature and your SSD is 470 series, you can perform DOS-based firmware update utility via bootable CD/DVD/USB.

1) Firmware Update using Magician, SAMSUNG's Digital World
. When a new firmware is available for Samsung SSD on your system, a message "New Version of Firmware Detected (Version Number)" appears next to the Update button on the Firmware Update screen.
2) DOS Firmware update Utility, SAMSUNG's Digital World

Caution)
. Before updating the firmware, please back up your data and close all running applications (except Magician)
. Before updating the firmware, please check whether your SSD's firmware is the latest version or not
- Magician home -> Firmware Update
- Samsung website : SAMSUNG's Digital World
. Please do not power off during firmware update
. Firmware Update cannot be performed on a RAPID Enabled SSD
. PC reboot is required
