Updates causing problems?

Hi, I am new to these forums as you can see. :)

Anyway, I don't know why this happens, but whenever I use Windows Update in the Control Panel and get new updates, restart my computer(as it tells me to) then after that I try to open a folder but I get a message saying something about "a file isn't associated with this" (I'm not exactly sure what the message said..) I know how to fix this, but I get other problems like, not being able to open Help and Support, I get another error message. There's probably more errors where that came from, but I don't know.. I used system restore to get my computer back to before the update, and all was well again, but I don't have the update.:(
I can't exactly explain because I don't get these errors anymore(system restore...)
I need those updates! This happens with any update, not with a specific one..

What's going on? How can I fix this?

Nvidia Geforce GT220

Don't download all of them at once.
Start with the smaller ones/reboot/ and then download the larger files one at a time.
Seems to have worked for others in this forum.
Post back on how it is going.
