Okay, so yesterday I ended up with the whole Logon with black screen issue.
I did a clean install of my previous Windows Vista Home Premium..then upgraded to 7.

I was wondering if it was possible that an update did this?

I have read other forums and stuff saying that updates had done things and screwed or changed your windows 7 and created errors and what not.....

If so, what updates can cause things like this?

Possible. But every time Updates are installed it sets a Restore point which can be restored from booted Win7 DVD or Repair CD. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Make sure you have enough space apportioned for SysRestore so that more points hang around longer. Rightclick Computer>Properties>Advanced options>System Protection>Configure and set disk space for restore points up to 20% or more.

Updates have been known to cause problems on some computers.

It may be a good idea in future to have Windows Update notify you only when new updates are available. You can then choose to download a few at a time to note if a problem occurs.
Always make sure you have a current system restore point created prior to downloading...
