Updating ati driver

Hi , the proper procedure of updating ati driver is it

1.) Install the new catalyst suite over the old one

2.) Uninstall the old suite and install the new one

3.) Uninstall the old suite , run driver cleaner/sweeper in safe mode and then install new one

I happened to have a BSOD regarding the atikmdag.sys
It is a fresh installed windows 7 system. CAT 10.6 was installed right after the windows 7 installation. Can it be driver problem ? Or should I try other CAT versions ?

Number 1 as it also does number 2 at the same time. Number 3 is overkill and only needed if your are trying to diagnose a problem or going back to an older version.
