Solved Updating ATI VGA Drivers, Will I get any problem?

Hi there people!!

I would like to upgrade my VGA drivers, so I can see if I get better performance on some stuff (like games and so...)... the problem is that in Acer.com they have no upgrades for my model (in my sig), so, I was willig that the generic drivers provided in AMD can do for my lappy... I used the Udate advisor app from them and says that 11.8 driver is the latest for me... but is known that manufacturers do specific mods for the device drivers...

Do you recomend upgrading with the latest AMD drivers or I need to wait for Acer to release a new set?

If Acer don't have any updated drivers you can by all means try the manufacturer's latest offerings.

Create a restore point first, so that if you encounter a problem you can always restore your computer to a time before you updated the driver.

In addition, you need to be aware that the manufacturer's drivers will probably have different functionality to your OEM (Acer) drivers, and if you experience a problem you can always just roll back to the previous driver by going into device manager and expanding the graphics adapter then clicking the Driver tab.

Just get the drivers for your card from AMD,

You're showing that your card is made by XFX, which means Acer has nothing to do with it. Also any driver from XFX will be nothing more than the exact same thing as what is from AMD. About the only difference in the driver from XFX might be their logo showing up during the install or possibly in the CCC.

Desktop drivers aren't like laptop drivers where they have been modded by the computer manufacturer in the case of laptop manufacturers, to work with the laptop screen any any power saving schemes they might use.

Well... I see that this couldn´t be as easy as I spected... I wish Acer updates their drivers soon... I don't know why they don't.

actually the xfx driver downloads are generally larger as they contain all the language packs and extras.

I personally suggest going straight to amd/ati myself as well though.

Thanks magus... in general, the ATI card I was talking about is the one I use on my laptop (Acer), which is listed in my sig... in my XFX I have no problem because I use AMD divers, and do the work nicely.
