Hi
I have an acer laptop pre installed with win 7 which ive had for nearly a year.Ive never updated any drivers even though ive checked in device manager its never found any updates.I also have acer updater which again has never come up with any updates.
I was just reading through some posts on here and have found updates for realtek hd audio driver and many others. Why is it device manager doesnt find these updates and is it just best to manually visit the sites and check for updates yourself.Or is there another way to check. Also which driver updates are most important i presume my graphics card must be well outdated by now
Any help much appreciated thankyou

If you don't have Windows 7 updater latest release installed (came out just after W7 was released) and allow it to search for third party updates you won't be advised of updates. Go to Asus Downloads and Updates section and check for updates by your particular model and OS and I'm guessing you will find updates. Your device manager would find an update if it were in a directory on your PC but I find it is usually not intuitive enough to find one on the web.

You may also wish to think about the mantra "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", updated drivers can be a good thing but not always. Loads of OEM's actually work with the industry folks and have dedicated drivers for their components and Asus is no exception to this so it would be in your best interest to check there first especially with a laptop.

Unless you can find updated drivers for your Acer Aspire on their site, and your not having any issues with your laptop I would leave it as is.
OEM manufactuerers have a reputation of making modifications to their drivers so they are specific to your model.
I would also like to add before you do any updating of drivers read the release notes and see if they address a problem your having or add options not already avalible to you. Like with your Realtek sound driver.
It's also in my opinion a good idea to create a restore point before installing any new driver(s) or programs, so if you don't want the program or the new driver creates an issue you can easily uninstall it then restore back to where you were before you tried to update. Fabe
