"Updating" from Win 7 RC 7100

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding the upcoming expiry of the Win7 7100 evaluation copy. I got a friendly email from Microsoft saying I have to upgrade very soon. As a student, I can get a fairly cheap upgrade copy of Win7 Pro from MS's It's Not Cheating site. My question is, can I use this copy to update from my current evaluation version?

I've done a bit of research and it seems to be a bit of a cloudy area. Some say that if I boot from this upgrade disc, then put the key in after installation, that the upgrade will work. Others seems to say that the upgrade disc will ONLY work with an already installed OS ie Vista.

I guess I could rule all this out by buying a full version of Win7, but the student discount appeals to me. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yes, it will work...but do not attempt to upgrade. Follow the instructions shown many times on the forum to do a clean install from upgrade media.

EDIT - Forgot to mention that I'd prefer to do a 'clean' install as opposed to updating from 7100 (pretty sure going back a version when updating is impossible anyway). I guess that makes my overall question - can I use an upgrade disc to do a clean install?

One more quicky guys, the student version is an electronic download. I'm guessing/hoping this is an ISO? I read somewhere some ppl had some difficulty because their electronic download came as something else.

Digital river will let download a ISO or .exe. The ISO comes with the MS usb loader or you can get one or burn it to a DVD. I downloaded both and bought the DVD and some how got a extra DVD sent to me.

Yes I have made 6 different USB Flash Drives (Bootable) for installing different versions of win7, they all work rather smoothly. 4gb to 16gb with extra utility files, antivirus, MalWareBytes, Wallpaper, Gadgets, etc

I'm taking a single class here at a local comm. college. I got my copy of Win7 Ultimate for $99. I was given the option of either downloading it, or getting it on the DVD. I got the DVD. Installed without a problem (I did a clean install. I have NEVER done an update install on any of my pc's and never will).
