Hey all,

I upgraded my OS from WIN 7 Home 64-bit, to WIN 7 Prof 64-bit and my browsing speed decreased dramatically. I primarily used Chrome before, but browsing is practically impossible on it now. So now I use Firefox 4 since its been decent with me. I have no clue what went wrong since the upgrade was successful. My router is fine, but browsing speed is just super slow. It wasn't like this before I upgraded. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Please and thanks for any advice given!

What kind of an upgrade did you do? Custom? Clean install?

Clean install. My last OS had some file damage (mountmgr.sys) so I decided to upgrade.

Exactly what did you do when you upgraded? After Windows 7 installed, did you install any drivers from the Dell website? Did you download Dell drivers for your laptop prior to installing x64?

No, I did not download any drivers of any kind. Yesterday I installed a driver for my printer, but I doubt that will cause any problems. Although, (once again) yesterday I did download Microsoft Fix-It 50199 (Reset TCP/IP). Browsing speed increased quite a bit, but its still not the same as it was before the WIN7 upgrade.

I would give Firefox 5 a try. It's still a bit slow loading if the HD is busy, but it does seem pretty fast as far as loading pages and general browsing. I use chromium as my primary browser and FF 5 as secondary.

Also this tweaker may be helpful:

Although I seem to remember it helped more on Vista before SP1 than on 7. But they probably upgraded it since I last tried it.

edit: as a precaution with anything that tunes Registry settings I'd back up with a restore point and also ERUNT
