Today I installed hd6850.

I did a clean install with use of Driver Fusion(ex driver sweeper)

And Im getting atikmdag.sys bsod when booting.

I searched for atikmdag.sys in windows folder, and found 9 atikmdag.sys and 2 atikmdag.sys.mui.

http://shrani.si/f/2h/Ev/2yUnpX0S/capture.png

My question is: Can I delete this files, when doing clean install?

An after cleaning with DF Im still having a lot of files wich begins with ati...sys(ATi technologies).
Are they safe to delete. Im thinking, probably not. Or can I ,but not ones in

amd64_microsoft-windows-w..ationservice .... folders?

This is minidump report:

I know there are a lot of solutions on the net but nothing worked.

I will try different version of drivers. But first wil try clean install with drivers only, without CCC. One guy did a extended research, and found aou that, without CCC, there is no BSOD.

I would be glad, if you can give me answer to those two questions.

I would uninstall all drivers you have used

Then go to AMD.com get them from there and don't get the Beta 12.7 it will not be good for your card get the 12.6 you should be ok after that also when installing drivers there is a color mark that determines if it was instaled you have red bad install yellow didn't install properly and Green good install

When you installed drivers if it gave you anything besides green then it was a driver issue

Also if you Overclocked your card and it is not in spec that can happen too

Ok. So I restored everything from driver sweeper and driver fusion backup and I was able to logon to windows in normal mode. What should I do. Uninstall drivers And install them again? Now they are installed but they are not working properly

capture.png

But what to do with 4870 leftovers?

And OldMX I think you are right about DS, because I had a lot of warnings and errors in Event viewer before I restored backup. Now it seems that everything is normal.

This is what i get when trying to start CCC

df.png

So uninstallation seems best thing to do. Any other suggestion before I do that?

First off before you uninstalled the 4870 did you take out the drivers first and after th at did you use the drivers from the disc for the 6850?

There is no need to clean those files after uninstling if it went through with success then leave it be if you were trying to clean those files after you just uninstalled them might be your issue too after each uninstall you have to reboot some how i think your drivers got botched trying to use driversweeper when you didnt need too

No I just switched cards, and then tried to uninstall drivers. :(

At least now when i restored files and regsitry, everything looks ok. Should I just uninstall drivers, and reinstall new ones, without using Driver sweeper

edit: Uninstalled and installed new drivers, and at the end I ger yellow sign(warnings occured during installation) OMG, am gonna kill myself. 4h thats how long Im playing with this.

now I will restart pc, and probably get BSOD again. grrr...

yep BSOD

your supposed to uninstall first then take the card out place new card in fire it up then re install drivers

I did something similar to what you did once and my system reconized it but normaly i would never do that I just forgot lol cause i was rushing cause i had some family matters to take care of but none the less it worked

cant say the same for all systems but the stardard would be to take drivers out first remove the card then put new one in fire it up and re install drivers

Well this one was really hard.

I reinstalled windows(formated) and again I was getting same BSOD. Then I thought maybe the graphic card itself is at fault. I went trough connections again, reseated. Didnt help.

Then I opened gpu-z and export bios.rom. I check it, and I saw that somebody was playing with rbe before. So I decided to flash the card. But didnt install drivers.

Then I remember that one guy did extended reasearch regarding atikmdag.sys, and he tried to reproduce bsod, he was getting bsod, on every computer with ccc on. But when he installed driver only, he didnt get bsod. So I decided to try, so I installed driver only, without all decoders etc. rebooted, and It worked. I rebooted only once so far, but I hope that this one works.

So now I dont know what really helped, but it was probably the driver only thingy.

Here it is From Microsoft Newsgroup Site about ATIKMDAG Issue

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...eral&mid=07456485-b236-4d2b-8dd4-69b6b2d5dd1bLevel5Owner's Post

My System Engineer and I have after many headaches and ALOT of tylenol have Identified the apparent Cause of this Problem.

What it is Not -

Vista ( 32bit or 64bit ), XP ( 32bit or 64bit ), .NET framework, System Memory, Heat, Dual Monitors ( Extended Desktop or Clone Mode ) .

What it appears to be -

The ATI CATALYST CONTROL PANEL SOFTWARE ( Not the Stand Alone Driver )

Basis For Conclusion -

We tested all My Systems ( 4 of them ,2 XP ( 1 64bit and 1 32bit ) 2 VISTA Ultimate ( 1 32bit and 1 64bit ) from the ground up with NUMEROUS CLEAN installs of the BASE OS to try and reproduce the Error After every Software install. We did this with the OS Updated and With the OS Naked. The Error only Occured AFTER installing the CATALYST CONTROL PANEL SOFTWARE.
We then Did Clean installs on All the Systems and Installed ONLY the CATALYST SOFTWARE to see if it was a Conflict with any other software.
The Error occured Almost Immediatly.

We then Purged the Systems of All ATI Software and Tried to install the Software in the Individual packages the ATI does Provide. As soon as we installed the CATALYST CONTROL PANEL SOFTWARE the ERROR Occured.

We thenPurged the Systems again of the ATI SOFTWARE and Installed ONLY THE DRIVER. We ran the Systems for 2 weeks the ATIKMDAG HAS STOPPED RESPONDING AND RECOVERED Error did not reassert itself.

If you have the CATALYST CONTROL PANEL INSTALLED and Do a Seach of Your Primary hard Drive you will Find that the ATIKMDAG.SV file is ONLY found in the CATALYST CONTROL PANEL SOFTWARE PACKAGE.

If you Remove the CATALYST CONTROL PANEL you will remove ATIKMDAG.SV from your System and this solves at least this Issue.

The problem seems to be an encoding error in how the CATALYST control Panel Software Interacts with ICQ's in relation to The OS instructions.

It should be Noted that ATI apparently is aware of the Issue as they Offer a Standalone Download of the Graphics Driver even thought they will not Officially Acknowledge the Issue.

My System Engineer and I both have Notified ATI of our Findings. They have not responded.

OF NOTE -

Graphics Performance Does not appear to suffer when runnig ONLY the Graphics Driver. The Only Differance is that You Can Not use the Features that the CATALYST CONTROL PANEL SOFTWARE provides. However for graphics Stability it is a Small Price to pay.

Also Before you Chuck your ATI graphics Card For an NVIDIA Graphics Card note that NVIDIA Graphics Cards Present a Simalar Error and More Importantly NVIDIA DOES NOT OFFER a Standalone DRIVER, you take thier CONTROL PANEL or Nothing.

Ok. After few weeks of using drivers only, I decided to try with CCC installation, and everything that goes with it.
First I made new system restore, so i can go back if anything goes wrong. I found out that disabling ULPS, also helps with atikmdag.sys BSOD. I disable it with use of Sapphire trixx utility. It can be done manually, through registry

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Cl ass\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

Change EnableUlps from 1 to 0
.

Installed CCC and everything is fine now.
