Upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1

I purchased and installed 8.0 at the low introductory rate available at that time. It didn't work for what I wanted it for, so I didn't use it, and the HD it was on has been used for something else. All I have of the Win 8 is the license key. Can I now use this to upgrade to 8.1?
