Does the motherboard have a NIC/Network Interface for an Ethernet cable? I'd certainly use that type connection to get Win10 installed [it's a large download of about/over 3GB] then look for compatible drivers for the Wi-Fi adapter.

but can I just use my windows 7 key to activate inside windows 10?

NO -- you can only get an activated Win10 install by doing an in-place upgrade.

In a few weeks, MS is going to be releasing an SR1 for Win10 -- which should contain lots of fixes and some new features. I had attempted Win10 updates on 2 laptops fail miserably. So, maybe in a few weeks, MS will have an ISO version that will do a better job of the upgrades.

I would go back to Win7 and wait for the new ISOs to become available.

The issue has been solved.

In general, I reinstalled the WiFi drivers and the GetWindows10 update -

Locate KB3035583 update along "Installed Updates" and Uninstall it.

Now, I performed a few restart.

Next, I launched Windows Update and it found the KB3035583 automatically.

Installed it, Restarted, Clicked on the get windows 10 icon. - "Reserve your W10 free upgrade"

I had this problem too on a Dell notebook, solved the problem by installing the latest Intel chipset drivers and rebooting.

Then did an in-place upgrade using the Microsoft media tool to create an installation flash drive, inserting the USB drive and running the setup executable. Hope this helps.
