Sounds like you have a faulty power supply.

Do you have a multimeter to check the voltages?

Have you checked the numbering on the RAM slots? The latest Asus boards have it backwards, the first ones are toward the edge of the board. From the photo i saw yours does too. I don't know this particular board but the ones i've tested don't even boot without the first banks populated.

You sure your Board is running all slots correctly

even though you have it on and getting into bios

You also could have a bad hardrive that just won't accept the MBR

I would swap HHD and see if that fixes the issue ,looks to me the HHD is the problem not the system try installing on another drive just to get it going

If it works you know what the problem is just because it is brand new doesn't mean it won't have flaws

Make sure you check in BIOS for HDD modes, if your running sata it doesn't want to be in IDE mode ensure it's set for AHCI Also check Ram timings.
As already mentioned it could be a wonky power supply, even a damaged motherboard. Clearly you understand swapping out but have you tried reseating the CPU and stuff ?

Ok this might be the Board is not grounded correctly to the case follow the installation instructions and see if it is different from how you set it up

This also will make it very hard to get it working properly

Ok, the HDD are already set to ACHI, I've tried reseating the CPU, fan, tried different ram slots too. I'm beginning to think that Solarstarshines above is right and that the board wasnt grounded correctly. Inside the case is all the brass standings apart from 2 on the front side of the case. Do I just put the mobo back in again and not screw the holes with missing brass standings?

Also, how I plug a CD drive to this mobo, I cant seem to find anywhere plug it in.

Consult your installation guide it will give you the proper area to ground the screws

I would make sure all the main area's are grounded and if you have a area the board can't be screwed down leave it be nothing you can do about that

But if all other areas are screwed secured and grounded then you should be fine

Let us know what happens

Is it IDE or sata ? You might have to use either a older IDE drive or use a external kit

Im sure it has a connection there

Probably there is either mechanical defect of some sort (micro crack in the board) or manufacturer electrical defect.
Your best bet is to use plastic standings if they came with your case but first chek to see if all standings are in the correct places. It may also be that there's one extra that was used with the old board.
Worst case scenario: also remove the metallic covering on the backpanel.
But if i were you i'd RMA that motherboard. And about the CD drive, i suppose you mean that it has no IDE port. You can use a SATA-IDE adapter, they're very cheap. Or even a USB-IDE will be enough as far as transfer rate.

Those brass standing things are called "standoffs". They should be removable and should have a hole with threads.

Remove any standoffs that you are not actually putting a screw in from the topside after you put the board in. If you are using 7 mounting screws, that means 7 standoffs.

You don't want a stray standoff accidentally touching something on the bottom of the motherboard.

Use a standoff at the 4 corners and maybe 2 or 3 elsewhere. You don't necessarily have to use every available mounting hole in the motherboard, and you don't want any "unused" standoffs (those that you don't put a screw into).

Thats the word I was looking for, standoffs :) Couldn't mind it :P

Its an IDE drive and there isn't a port on there which I didn't notice before, CD drives don't bother me, could easily get an external one.

However I now have to install a clean version of windows, I'll have to use my memory stick instead of the CD drive then :P
