Upgraded from VISTA to WIN7 and lost data files and the shop wont help

Go gentle now, newbie here...

OK so Vista downloaded a KB file and there was a bug in it, @ startup all it did was LOOP with stage 3, didnt have the install disk so the shop said "Upgrade Sir to win7"
Hmmm ok I will

I got home and saw the hard drive had been divided into 2 (C & D drives on one hard drive)

Open firefox...BANG!!! all bookmarks lost
I have recovered them before so went into run and did the same (I googled the words so cant remebere them now...sorry) "this folder is...EMPTY"

WTF!!!
This is my life (I am businessman and all my web pages are there)

Now I know some will say "didnt you backup to cloud blah blah"
Nooooo i didnt because the shop said "Sir no problems you wont loose any files we only upgrade"

Folks...I NEED these bookmarks back

ANY ideas would be welcomed

Hello hrpuffnstuff, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Double check to see if you may have a "C:\Windows.old" folder that may contain them in the same location within this folder. This folder is a copy of your previous installation that get's created when you do an upgrade install.

If there's no windows.old folder, looks like they did an Custom install, not an Upgrade -- and in that case, all the previous files and folders are gone (kind of ...).

You MIGHT be able to recover the old Favorites by using data recovery apps. One free one is Recuva. The best one I've used is RecoverMyFiles, and you can install and try it for free, but you have to buy a license to do the actual data recovery.

It's a really big problem to those people who make a fool out of their customers. I don't even know if the employees of the shop that you went on knows the "Vista to 7 Upgrade"
