I have a HP z556 Home theatre PC that I put an Intel dg33bu motherboard in. It use to have a Core2duo 2.13GHz processor and I upgraded a couple days ago to an E8500 3.16GHz Core2duo.
Since I've upgraded:
At least one of my case fans is running 100%. With the old processor the same fan would ramp up and down (kind of annoying) but it wasn't as annoying as a fan spinning away at 100%.
When doing a reboot through Windows it doesn't startup. It shuts down but when it tries to start up, the screen stays black. If I hold the power button to shut it off, then press the power button to turn it back on, it starts up fine.
I have the latest BIOS and this processor is supported by this motherboard.
What could the problem be?
I'm mostly concerned with why the machine doesn't startup after a Windows reboot but the fan would be nice to know too.

I already had Speedfan installed but I installed Real Temp 3.70. Here is a screen shot. The GPU cooled down shortly after I took the screen shot and I've read that ICH and MCH are at typical temps.
Hi,
Temp's look okay to me
Did you optimize defaults in your bios after changing the cpu ?

The only other thing that I did in the process was I needed to replace the fan on my video card, so I removed and reinstalled that. Other than that I didn't do anything else with any settings or hardware.
Hi,
If you changed the cpu you'd need to at the very least use optimize defaults in the bios.

Sorry for the delay. I still haven't gotten a chance to get into my bios.
I don't recall a way to "optimize defaults" in the bios. I've been in there a few times but don't remember anything like that. What do you mean?
When I was using HWInfo, it says that my MB isn't running UEFI bios but is capable. I know it isn't necessary and do not know how to do it yet but do you think it is worth while?
Hi,
Optimize defaults could be F9 or F5 and save and exit could be F10.
