Goodevening and Happy New Year guys! :D

well, back to my question.. hehe
i have a Sony Vaio laptop (VPCEB36GM) and it says on the included guide book, it's ram is upgradable up to 8GB. (i currenly have 4GB which is pre-installed when we bought it.)

while cleaning my laptop, i saw my RAM's brand is ADATA.
and i use CrucialScan to determine what DD I am, and it's DDR3.

here's my question.
Can i use a different brand of RAM besides ADATA?
'coz im afraid, what if there's no ADATA available on our local stores..

..and i looked at ADATA's product site.
http://www.adata-group.com/index.php?action=product&cid=6&lan=pt&cid1=2
can i get DDR3L? I mean, will it harm my laptop? hehe sorry. I'm really clueless about these things.

You can..and it might work..it probably will work if it is the same specification..but there are always potential compatibility problems for no apparent reasons.

But when you open your RAM slot up, you may find you have 2 x 2Gb memory sticks, so no spare slots. So if you want to fit 8GB you may have to buy 8 Gb(2x4Gb ) anyway. if that is the case..it is then best to buy a matched pair.

I agree with Maxie. It's never a good idea to mix ram. You would be inviting problems. I'm not going to say it can't be done, just that it will cause problems in most cases. Anytime I switch ram I buy a lit of the ram I want to use. The modules in a kit have been tested by the manufacturer to run well together. The crucial scan you ran will show you what is compatible with your computer, and if bought from them, will guarantee compatibility.

Good little discussion here..

Why matched pair of RAM - RAM - Memory

i was reading it yesterday when i was searching for new RAM for my 08 Mac Pro...one of my 2GB sticks has crapped out, so i am down to 14 now..time for a boost to the full 32gb I think ..or at least 24. have been seeing used ram levels of 12 -14gb in the past on Photoshop multi layer renders.

When in doubt, the easiest way is to just buy the RAM recommended by Crucial's scanner directly from Crucial (it's only fair, anyway since you used their scanner). I did that recently when I upgraded the RAM in my Lenovo notebook. I might have saved a few shekels had I gone elsewhere but the peace of mind from getting exactly what was recommended was worth it. I don't know where you are located so that might not be an option for you.

thanks for the answer. but sending me a link to google is not really nice...

Sorry but best I could do quickly from a bloody small iPhone screen.
I would have thought that my attempt to help you was at least nicer than slagging my help off by saying it is not nice.

It may not have been perfect help, but at least it was an attempt at help.

Thought I had sent a link to one of the particular threads ..not the actual search results..

I thought I posted more than just a link...sorry if it did not help...but most people do not even bother to search first.
if you have done a search already, let people know what you have found out and what you have discovered, so they can give a more targeted answer.

Sorry it did not help

Just make sure you using same timings, like 7/7/7/19 and same voltages, brands its ok to mix.
