Hello,

I already know that the minumum specs for Windows 7 is a 1GHz Processor and at least 1GB of RAM.

Now my pc is about 5 years old (getting quite old now), but ide like to upgrade from XP. My system Specs are:-

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.00GHz
1.5GB RAM
Nvidia 7600 GS

Im just wondering weather this will run Windows 7 good enough to use (without lag issues etc). I would like an upgrade from XP, but dont like the look of Vista. I dont know if upgrading would put my PC under too much stress and potentially kill it? Or if it will run fine

Thanks for the advice!

James

Yes it will. I am running win 7 32bit in a desktop with similar specs. It will stress your pc more yet run without lag.

Be sure to run the Upgrade Advisor first. You may be able to install Windows 7, but if you find no graphics drivers, it won't be fun.

Thanks. My pc is literally on its last legs. But i suppose if it fully "kills" it, if its possible, i can get a laptop. At the minute the side casing is off because the PSU got replaced and is only 400W. Whilst running the GFX Card etc running more internal fans inside will put more stress on that.

I know running without the side cover is a little bit risky but i suppose if i keep ontop of cleaning it things should be fine.

Thanks for the help.

If i backup all of my programs and files (By backing up "Program Files" and "My Documents"), can i simply drag them back into Windows 7 in the same area, run the install package and install the program again? (Obviosuly if its windows 7 Compatible). Will i also need to purchase another version of Microsoft office? Or will my older copy for XP work?

thanks again

James

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Already ran the upgrade advisor and everyhting seemed fine. The only thing it picked up was Acrobat reader, which im guessing there is a Windows 7 version if i need it. Im guessing Nvidia has a graphics driver which is 7 Compatible anyway?

thanks for the replies!

Ok,

If i drag my program files onto another internal hard drive (with XP on), can i then drag them back from it once i have windows 7 installed? I dont want to use an external hard drive thats all, so just wondering if this is compatible.

Is there anyway of backing up my programs and music in a simple way. What about my favourited pages on the internet?

Thanks a lot!

James

P.S Planning on re-installing soon, but whats a general estimate on length of time to Format a 80GB Hard Drive (With Approx 60GB Data on it), and install windows 7?

Programs can not be "transferred".

Programs must be reinstalled.

Backup all your pics, music, etc that are dear to your heart to a USB stick and go for the gold!

If you run across any actual install problems, give us a yell and you will be flooded with suggestions.

Sorry to keep asking questions, you probably just want me to install it and get over and done with.

I have backed up all the data i need (i think i have anyway). Once i install windows 7, will i be able to acess the internet right away (Will it install/come with drivers to allow this) or will i have to find my ethernet drive online and back it up?

Asus K8v Motherboard so dont know if the drivers are still available

You should be able to access the internet right away. In the very unlikely event it can't, you will need to download the driver onto a CD or thumb drive.

99% guaranteed to work right out of the box though.

Hello!

Well, its all up and working. No problems so far, just putting all my files and music back across and installing my programs.

Just wondering how i can get "custom" themes which are already made? Ive seen a few websites but dont know if theyre trusted or not. I just googled "Windows 7 Themes" and a few near the top looked a bit dodgey. Although the ones on the actual windows website arent very good.

Thanks

James

Hi James, and welcome to Sevenforums :)

You can have a look for themes on the following sites:
Browsing Customization on deviantART
Virtual Customs - Home
http://www.graphicstalk.info

On how to apply these themes, have a look at this tutorial ;)
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/28377-theme-how-apply-custom-themes.html

Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else :)

Thakns :). I did do a search in the website but couldnt find much. I probably have a lack of investigation skills :).

Having problems with windows media player opening, becuase i have a lot of songs, everytime i open it, it just wants to load all of my songs which in turn crashes the program.

Thanks

James
