While trying to upgrade to Windows 7, I get this message:

Upgrading Windows will affect the following devices and/or programs:

  • These devices might not work properly after the upgrade. Before upgrading, we recommend updating the drivers for these devices. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel and search for "update device drivers", or go to the device manufacturer's website to search for updated drivers.

    • [*] Storage controllers: AS44Y2L5 IDE Controller

      [*] Keyboard Filter

  • These programs might not work properly after the upgrade. We recommend uninstalling these programs before upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel, and search for "uninstall a program". (Note: Programs marked as * can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.)

    • [*] HP MediaSmart Music/Photo/Video *

[*] iTunes (Please deauthorize computer prior to upgrade)

I'm more concerned with the Storage controller/keyboard filters.. I've tried to upgrade both of them, with no luck.
I've also tried searching around, but haven't found anything helpful ('course I'm not quite sure exactly what I'm looking for, so that doesn't help).

So basically, my question is..
How do I upgrade these?
Or do I even need them, after the upgrade to Win7?
If I do upgrade to Win7 without upgrading these, will it affect anything important? :\

You need to go onto the HP web site and see if they support Windows 7 drivers foryour laptop and I would not recomend a upgrade do a clean install I have heard too many people say that they have upgraded and all they have is problems and most have done a clean install anyway.

1. Do you have Daemontools installed by any chance? Uninstall it then run the advisor again.
2. I checked the links you included in your post. Your notebook is Win7 ready with the complete set of drivers. Cannot foresee any problem. You can also download the critical drivers like chipset, hdd, input devices, audio and video to a bootable cd/flash drive as a precaution.

Ah, yes.
I uninstalled Daemon Tools. That fixed the problem with the Storage controllers, at least.
Also went ahead and uninstalled the other programs while I was at it.

I downloaded the two drivers Crispy posted. I should wait until I have Win7 to install them, correct?

I'm sorry if I'm being horribly slow. I just don't want to make a simple mistake and screw everything up.
