Upgrading fr XP to 7: The Bloated C Drive

Despite backing up all documents and settings to an external drive for subsequent, selective reinstallation, the upgrade appears not to have wiped and reformatted my C drive as I’d hoped, but to have ignored all files and folders on that drive, which remains 95% full. Despite the drive’s bloated status, opening My Documents in Win 7 reveals no files or folders. Can any tell me what happened, and how to access and/or remove these old files/folders?

Sounds like your really did an upgrade. You must chose the clean install method. Am I right? If so, start over and chose clean install. If not delete your windows.old folder with a disk clean up

Since you went to all the trouble of backing up (smart choice) consider booting from the Win7 installer and doing the cleanest install of all: Custom using Advanced drive tools to format the drive.

Did the install create a windows.old folder? If so, it contains all the files from your old installation.

You can delete it using the disk cleanup system toll (under Accessories/System Tools).

bro did u buy the professional or the ultimate win 7 edition and not the upgrade? Difference? to 2 latter cost way more and are targeted at the corporate level. If u did buy any of the 2 latter then you are in luck and go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx and do the download.
