Upgrading from 32 to 64 bit

Yes my PC was build in the last 15 month so it should be ok for 64 bit I suppose

To embarrassed to tell lol
I suppose
I'd do more than just suppose! Given the specs you have in your profile, you shouldn't have an issue. I'm running Windows 7 x64 on computers with far less power.

Someone on here told me they were running 7 on a 2GHz single core CPU and 1GB DDR RAM. I think you'll be straight DirtRider.

I've had it running on laptops with a Pentium M single core proc and 1 GB of memory. I know it's been posted a lot, unfortunately, but there are still some people who think a dual core processor is a requirement. The memory is just as important, if not more so. Having a video card that supports Aero is also a help, as it offloads the graphics and UI work.

Someone told me that a dual-core 64-bit processor was made from two single-core 32 bit processors. No clue where the got the from but it seems like a decent amount of people believe it. Any clue about this?

Sweet, that means my quad-core is a 128 bit processor! :D

I am never amazed when I hear the way some people try to explain processors and how this whole 32 bit and 64 bit scene. I saw on another forum that a guy claimed his x64 OS was twice as fast as the x86 ones because it was made up of two parallel 32 bit OSes running together to split the work.

That's a difficult one to explain properly, because you normally can't find the single core equivalent of a dual core processor. For example, if you had an E8400. That's a 3 GHz, dual-core processor, sharing 6 MB of cache. You won't find a single core 3 Ghz processor that has 3 MB of cache and the same internal architecture to compare it to.

I guess the easiest way is to think of the processor as a single component that is x64 compatible...and the number of "brains" it has internally can change, from 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, etc.
