Upgrading from 7068 to 7100?

Okay - so I've Googled and I've read the steps, and well. To be frank, I'm not entirely computer savvy and I may have some issues with the upgrade. But before I even go there, there's something that's troubling me more than even that.

Most of the step-by-step guides I've found (including the original one that Microsoft released) mention an expiration warning and bi-hourly shutdowns of your computer, starting sometime between July and the beginning of August, and I've got race to upgrade before August starts.

Right?

I haven't gotten any warnings. Does this mean I don't need to upgrade - and magically stuck in this beta build?

This all started when I wanted Windows 7 for my new laptop, and it was my friend who put it all together. I got this laptop about four months ago, and just moved, so I haven't been bothering him about it. ... He assured me that it could update on its own, but that always made me nervous, so I've been Googling here and there, watching Windows 7's progress.

And here I am.

So do I upgrade? And if I do... I may need a volunteer to make sure I don't blow up my computer.

Here are some of my diagnostics:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, build 7068
HP Pavilion dv5-1100 Special Edition laptop (the pretty green & white one)

Need more, just let me know.

Thank you for any assistance. So far, this has been the only forum I could find that would offer help for this build and mentioned things about upgrades already. I'm crossing my fingers.

Don't we all wish

Build 7068 wasn't a beta build, it was considered a pre-release candidate so it will expire June of 2010. So you have about a year to get the final version

Oh. Oh, hallelujah!

So I might as well wait for the full and complete release of Windows 7 before I upgrade?

The build of win 7 that is timing out is the 7000. It will cease on aug 1, 2009 and has already started to do bi-hourly shutdowns. You can find out when yours will by typing winver in search. then you will know if you have to or when you have to

He has a pre-release candidate, it won't expire till June of 2010, to confirm this he has stated that it hasn't notified him of expiration.

WRONG! The RC-keys expires in 02-03-2010, so the 10th march ;)

Isnt march of 2010 when the bi-hourly shutdown begins.

There was a debate about this at a technet conference I was at lol.

Oh! I'm a girl. ;) (Not like I mentioned that, so I don't blame you.)

Whether it's June or March, either way it'll lemme know, right? So it's not like it's glitchin' on me now and I need to do anything now. That's what I was mostly concerned about. So long as it let's me know when the time comes, and the full version of Windows 7 is out, I think I'm good and happy.

Thanks, guys!
