I just received my windows 7 62 bit upgrade disk in the mail. The setup.exe on this disc does not work since im running 32 bit vista at the moment. I have been reading the tutorials on windows 7 installations but i can't seem to figure it out since most of them say to make sure that your disc has boot priority in the BIOS and i do not know how to alter boot priorities.

Some help with upgrading from 32bit vista to 7 62bit would be great, or if i just need to change the bios boot stuff, then help with that would be awesome.

Thanks.

When you turn on the computer, you typically press F2 or Del to enter the BIOS. From in the BIOS, you have to find the menu option to set the boot order. You have to ensure that the DVD/CD drive is listed to boot before the hard drive.

Make sure that you backup your data...as you cannot upgrade from 32 to 64 bit. You will be performing a clean install.

Easy, said it yourself. Enter BIOS, usually by pushing F2 or DEL when you first turn on your computer. Go to the Boot Menu, usually one of the last options, and set the PC to boot from CD first (i.e Before the Hard Disk).
Shame your upgrading though. A new install is much more reliable and Win 7 is much faster than Vista but I have found tends to run like Vista when upgraded. Hope your experience differs.

Ok thank you for this info. Also, if i have 2 internal hard drives will both of them be wiped? and to the second poster, i pre-ordered the student discount upgrade version, so does that mean my windows 7 will be a little different than if i had bought the full windows 7 in stores?

No, your second drive won't be wiped, but you can certainly disconnect it so you can't accidentally wipe it.

I doubt if the student version has any differences in functionality. It's all in the licensing.

Also!

Get a hard drive and relocate your desktop, documents, pictures, videos and any folder found under USERS on your C drive to the new drive. That way after a new install you can restore all of your data except the program files.
