Upgrading from windows 7 32bit to 64?

Hi, a couple of questions. Firstly I ordered the student deal of Windows 7 with the install disc, does this come with the 32 and 64 bit versions on it?

Secondly I want to upgrade to 64 bit, so if I purchased a license key for 64 bit would I be able to give my friend the 32 bit product key?

The student deal usually only comes with one or the other.

As for your second question, it depends. Are you saying you want to give your old product key for HP to a friend, and use the new 7 Pro product key? If so, it depends on if it is a OEM key or a retail key. If it came preinstalled on the computer, it is OEM. OEM keys are tied to the motherboard of the computer they are installed on, so they are non-transferable.

Where did you get the stydent deal from? If from www.software4students.co.uk in the UK then it comes with both x86 and x64 disks. I'm not sure about other countries though.

I want to give my 32 bit key to a friend, it's not an OEM key.

I purchased my version direct from microsoft and chose the option for the install disc for £9.

The product key is only tied to the version, home premium, professional, ultimate etc. It's your choice whether you install 32 bit or 64 bit, your product code will work with either one. If you have the correct x64 media you could replace the x86 install with the x64 version and use the same product code. You just can't use the same product code on two PCs at the same time.

From what I have seen it appears if you buy OEM you get a 32 "OR" 64 bit DVD, if you buy Retail you get 32 "AND" 64 bit DVDs. Your mileage may vary.

I ended up buying 64 bit version. I am going to give the 32 bit to my girlfriend, now, I've just bought a new hard drive so the 64 bit will go on that.

How can I remove my 32 bit version from my old hard drive?

Delete the partition, creat a new one and then format the drive, all data on it will be erased.
