upgrading my harddrive

I want to upgrade my harddrive on my laptop from 150gb to 500gb drive. im debating HDD vs
Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB Internal hard drive - 300 MBps - 7200 rpm

First part of my Question is anyone have a opinion eitherway or an alternative im missing.

Second portion of my question? what is the process of changing harddrive and keeping data. if possible i would like to keep vista on one partition and upgradeto win7 from the same image on the second partition

When this is all done, do you want to have BOTH Vista and Windows 7, and be able to use both?

Or just Windows 7?

Hi,
I have an 80gb hard drive and want to upgrade to a bigger hard drive, and keep the 80gb installed and use that to store all my music file etc.

However think im going to come across a problem.

My version of windows is OEM, and I only have a fujitsu siemens recovery disk.

Could I clone the 80gb and put that onto the bigger drive, will I have problems with ie activating xp in the new drive.

Please could anyone tell me if im likely to have issues regarding this, I do have the xp key

The model of pc is fujitsu siemens scaleo 600 pentium 4 512gb ram

If the clone is successful (there are no guarantees), I think you would already be activated---the fact that XP is activated on your existing machine should be carried over to the new hard drive as part of the cloning process. I don't think the fact that you have an OEM license would prevent you from moving to a larger hard drive.

But you might have issues unrelated to activation. Cloning (or imaging) is not foolproof.

I don't know exactly how the recovery disk would react if it found another hard drive.

Western Digital Scorpio Blue or Scorpio Black. Seagate has had too many drive/firmware issues in the last several years.

Had an Seagate 80gb hdd system disk which I cloned to a Seagate 160gb hdd. Dell OEM. Had no issues with XP. Then made an installation of Windows 7 on the 160gb drive. Windows 7 kept the XP files marking it "Windowsold".

--Hmmm...keep the 80gb (which has Vista), clone it to the new hdd then install Windows 7 on it. Windows 7 will keep the vista files inside the cloned drive. But that's just me
