I have really old hardware (CPU, GPU, check my specs). If I were to upgrade my motherboard, from that old M3A78-CM to one that supports AM3+ proccesors, what hardware components do I have to upgrade as well (again, check my specs).

I'm planning on buying the Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P. It says that it supports Athlon X2, so my processor will work on that motherboard, right?

I would think just the memory, if the new board uses ddr3, check the specs.

If the board supports your cpu, then yes it will work.

Did you change your mind on getting the AM3+ ?

Your processor does appear on the compatibility list provided by gigabyte for this motherboard so in theory, yes it should work with the motherboard you have chosen.

Source: GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Socket AM3+ - AMD 760G - GA-78LMT-S2P (rev. 3.1)

Your memory however may cause issue as it is DDR2 and the motherboard supports DDR3.

Hope that helps :)

Yes most hard drives are SATA which most motherboards have connections for. In this case, your chosen motherboard has 6 SATA connections so as long as your hard drive has a SATA connector it will work perfectly. Hope that helps :). P.s for reference here is a picture of a SATA connector

Hope I'm not too late but whatever you do, do not buy that motherboard. Other than having an AM3+ socket on it, it is older than what you currently have.

@ Phill3990, might want to look at that list again. There is no way that an AM2 CPU will work on an AM3+ board as the CPU does not support DDR3.

WarlockSpringel, if you're looking to upgrade, you're looking at a new build. Your current CPU won't work on an AM3+ board, and you would also need new memory.

Nah, it's okay. I was asking if it'll support my current CPU so that I can put it in the new new motherboard and then upgrade the CPU later. I haven't done anything yet.

I've been saving money since first grade. But I don't plan on spending more than 500 USD for a CPU, motherboardand GPU. By the way, if you wanna know I have 6000 dollars.. I'm saving up for stuff
By the way, I have a question. This motherboard says that it supports
"6 xSATA 3 Gb/s ports " does that mean Sata III?

Are you asking is SATA 3 would work on the motherboard? the 3 gb/s is the transfer speed, SATA I is 1.5gbs, SATA II is 3gbs, and SATA III is 6gbs but the SATA III specifications provide backward compatibility to function on SATA I and SATA II ports. However, the maximum speed of the drive will be slower due to the lower speed limitations of the port. so your SATA III would not be able to go higher than the 3gbs supported by the board. Please correct me if i'm wrong, Thanks Phill
