Upgrading Processor

Well thanks for the offer but I am looking to beef up the PC, to something along the lines of a dual-core 2.5Ghz processor w/ 4GB RAM. Plus I don't have the cash at the current time.

I collect stuff from thrift stores, real cheap for parts. I really don't build them for sale. Just personal, business, & scientific computer learning. Check out my post on a 600mhz Intel box I got for $ 9.99 & it's running Build 7127, but slowly.

Haha wow 600mhz O.O thats 100mhz faster then my sisters PC (that doesn't want to boot, .. turns on, thats it ), aww okay. Was worth a shot asking.

Thats amazing, I wish I could get my sisters PC to work, it has like 378Mb RAM, 497mhz processor .... yeah thats all I remember, would give me something to 'toy' with.

It wont turn on with the CPU in it, and if i manage to get it to turn on with the CPU in it, it just doesn't do anything. Turns on, thats it, have to unplug it to turn it off or hold power button. >.<

But anyways lol, I'm suprised Windows 7 runs on that PC

Let me weigh in here with one comment before you drop any money on a new CPU for that board. Despite what it says in the specs on that link you posted, if the bios on the board doesn't support the CPU you are looking at it won't work, or it may work but not be detected properly by the bios and/or Windows.

HP/Compaq has a habit of shipping the computer with a bios in it that will only support th cpu that comes with it, even if they sell a different model with the same board but different cpu; they would rather sell you a new computer with the faster cpu than allow you to swap cpu's. Whether they will tell you or not, I would get in touch with Compaq and ask then if your current board/bios will support the cpu you are looking at, and if not if they have a bios update that will.

Ah, thank you for your comment Stormy, I just flat out decided to build a Desktop from scratch, seeing as my hours have gotten longer (meaning more $$$), it will be great for me to have what I want plus, I can show my friend the PC when its done so he will hate me ^_^

Good choice, that way you egt the parts you want and not what HP/Dell/etc tell you you can have. That and it makes upgrading much much easier. If you're unsure what to look for give us a budget to work with and we'll help you line up the parts (start a new thread so it doesn't get lost in here).

Will do, I'll likely only need help on half the system.

Mainly the PSU/Motherboard/CPU/Video Card, be my luck I buy something, and it doesn't even fit lol. *sigh* Anyways back to Halo 2 (PC)
